We had the pleasure of attending Denbigh School‘s Diversity Day today. Organised for their Year 9 students, Q:alliance were asked to attend a student-led session on sexual orientation and gender identity in an advisory and signposting capacity.
Students delivered an excellent presentation to their peers which included questions and thought provoking discussion sessions, as well as an account from one student on their personal experiences as an LGBTQ+ young person. The session closed with a brief input on the work of Q:alliance.
Attending on behalf of Q:alliance, Dylan Bettles-Hill said “It was wonderful to see students openly sharing their experiences of the LGBTQ+ community with their peers, in a supportive and safe environment. To then find out that the students had put this session together themselves, with minimal input from staff at the school was especially pleasing. The content and thought that went into it was excellent.”
Last academic year Brunel House at Denbigh School selected Q:alliance as one of their house charities, following a number of students campaigning for Q:alliance to be selected as they were either accessing our services or felt passionately about supporting us. As a result of charity events, they raised over £200.
